THE THIRD SPACE
Brief

91 Bree Street is an all-day cafe & bar, restaurant , private dining rooms, shop & private club in the Grand European tradition on Cape Town’s Iconic Heritage Square. The all-day cafe & bar on the ground floor will serve breakfast from an extensive menu. Every afternoon, classic afternoon tea will be served, whether for a traditional cream tea or a celebratory Champagne alternative.

The brasserie on the second floor will be a classical French brasserie with its own separate entrance from Bree street. Making great use of the high volumes 91 Bree has to offer, original floorboards , floor to ceiling windows, and massive walk in safe that will be converted into a wine cellar, leather banquettes, white linen, crystal glassware, chandeliers, art on the walls, extensive wine list, lounge & bar. The private club on the third floor with its own private entrance and lift, will be Cape Town’s most unique, modern social club. The club will be a place members will love to wine and dine, relax, entertain or simply interact with a stimulating crowd. In addition to hosting engaging events from fine art exhibitions, readings by leading authors to wine maker tastings, the club will also offer a whiskey corner and wine locker room for members ‘storage’, a private dining room, meeting room and rooftop deck with a view of Signal Hill. Membership will be limited and exclusive.

Concept

“A space where people meet to unwind, discuss and talk about things that matter to them”

Inspired by 1960s anti apartheid speakeasy bar, the Catacomb, the Third Space was founded. During apartheid there were underground places of meeting for likeminded people to socialize and enjoy themselves, these places although illegal, were often referred to as a “third space”, a safe space. A space where people meet to unwind, discuss and talk about things that matter to them, their neighbourhood and their community, where they can let down their guard, relax and be themselves, develop new friendships and deepen existing ones.”

This heritage building will become the perfect meeting place and the perfect space for like minded people. The three floors, each unique to the mood, yet defined by its purpose.
